Topic Dog Boards / General / Air travel - good news or not?

Hi everybody!
I am cross posting as I am not quite sure which forum this question actually "fits" into....
I need to make arrangements within the next few days for a two week holiday in Sicily with KTtheDog (I am not going on holiday if I can't take her with me... comments on sad human behaviour in another forum please ;)
I have a few questions for you:
1. has anybody here travelled by plane with their dog for such a short trip?
2. is it too cruel to subject them to such a trip for only 2 weeks?
3. how possible and how expensive is it?
In March I drove all the way to Rome from London just so that KT could come with me without being traumatized by the flight. But that was for a whole month and also a 2000km journey as opposed to nearly 3000!.....
Thanks to all.

I would't advocate anyone flying their dog to any destination; unless they were emigrating.

I understand you want to take your dog on holiday with you; my suggestion is stay within the British Isles, and drivable!!!

I know of a couple of situations wereby the Captain has asked the passengers to vote, on whether they would be happy to divert, as a dog in the hold was running out of air. Happily they voted to divert. There is not always such a happy outcome, and I can relate other stories regarding dogs in transit, without the happy ending.

First and foremost, unless you started the process of obtaining a Pet's Passport at least 7 months ago, and all rabies jabs, tests, 6 months 'grace' period after are complete - YOU CAN'T!!

Thanks to you both.
Clearly I have already done the pet passport as I went to Rome with her in March.
BUT..... what you said about the possibility of running out of air was enough to put an end to that thought!!!!!!
Thanks. That's exactly what I wanted to know (although it's not good news as such....)

I have seen a few airlines which say that you can have dogs in the passenger area with you (I think KLM was one). Not sure if you have to pay for a seat, but I can't see that you would fit a Great Dale by your feet!
