Hi everybody!
This is a borderline behavioural questions<G>...
I need to make arrangements within the next few days for a two week holiday in Sicily with KTtheDog (I am not going on holiday if I can't take her with me... comments on sad human behaviour in another forum please ;>).
I have a few questions for you:
1. has anybody here travelled by plane with their dog for such a short trip?
2. is it too cruel to subject them to such a trip for only 2 weeks?
3. how possible and how expensive is it?
In March I drove all the way to Rome from London just so that KT could come with me without being traumatized by the flight. But that was for a whole month and also a 2000km journey as opposed to nearly 3000!.....
Thanks to all.

Wouldn't it be easier for you and better for your dog if you left KT at home, after all it's only for 2 weeks!!!
I would be far cheaper I'm sure, and less dangerous to have someone look after them at home. Also, in the summer a lot of airlines won't let dogs fly anyway due to the heat in the cargo area, also for two weeks does that mean you'd still have time to fulfill all the return Pet Passport requirements.
I adore my dogs and HATE leaving them, but I'm not sure I'd subject them to all that for my own needs - they do absolutely fine when I leave them for a couple of weeks - they have a great time with the people they stay with or who stay here, and would be far less inconvenienced than spending all that time on a plane.
Honestly not critisizing! Just my thoughts.

You have the same dilemma as me, my regular destination is Spain. I have thought about driving, ferry and flying. I havn't fully investigated the flying option yet but I do think this is the better option. I am very interested in knowing whether there are any CD fans out there that have flown their pets to foreign parts.

I would have a concern that my dogs would suffer terribly from the unaccustomed heat in many countries. :( It seems quite hot today, and they're lying in the shade, and it's only about 80 degrees. Around the Med it frequently tops 100 degrees. They wouldn't enjoy it at all.
You are right, and I don't care for too much heat either. I wouldn't expect a dog to sit very long in the heat even in this Country, however, the early mornings and late evenings are fantastic - it's siesta time at all other times of the day.

Thanks all. I have investigated every single possible way of getting to Italy by train, ferry or airplane with a dog and have had to give up. I am afraid it will be back behind that steeringwheel as soon as it gets a bit cooler!
