Hi all, quickie question please. a friend has asked my advice and I am not sure of the answer. her Goldie is on day 12/13 of the season and is still showing bright red and quite copious . I have read here that some bitches show colour all through the season, and indeed some of my girls never go "clear", but mine have never stayed this "red" and been ready to mate. But is there any chance that she could be ready - can bitches be bleeding like the beginning of a season and be fertile or is it likely she will be a late ovulator? Any ideas? Thanks

Hi,

My brother-in-law's GSD is doing the same thing to us at the moment - she is on day 18, and as we're checking her daily and they're following my advice has not yet been to the stud dog.

She is still losing copious colour, and is not flying her tail at all. As she's a bit of a daddy's girl anyway, my advice has been that she's not ready and if she were mine I wouldn't be taking her until she was as I feel she'd be traumatised ......... we're hoping she's just going to be a late one. :) If she doesn't appear ready, they'll get ovulation checks done at vet next season.

PS - am taking this on overall evaluation though, my last litter the bitch was mated on day 9, although still losing colour, as she was quite obviously ready - if she saw a dog at 200 yards, she planted herself and flicked her tail :D

Thanks, I'll pass the info on.
