Just looking for a little advice about our male pup.

He is 10 weeks old and has been with us since 6 weeks. Whilst he nevers solis his crate at night and will always 'perform' as soon as the back door is opened, he then feels the need to go again and again all over the house! If we're all outside he will even nip back in to go on the carpet! It's driving us mad, but are we expecting too much too soon?

Also he play bites a lot. He knows he shouldn't but gets very excited and we always squeak and ignore him. Sometimes he will bark when told off and when he seems to be playing he curls his lips and nips very suddenly and hard. I really just need reassurance that this is normal and he will grow out of it. I thought GR's would be less assertive than he seems to be!

Have read books re Alpha Dog etc and trying to put into practice but pup seems oblivious.

1. Yep, you are expecting too much for a ten week pup. You need to spend a few days really reinforcing the praise&treat method and taking him out for a wee every 20 mins when he's awake

2. Mouthing is normal - you might have to stop the "squeaking" method and try the "NO" method - do a search on here on puppy biting or mouthing

3. Enjoy your pup - he's ten weeks, he's going to be bolshy, nippy, full of himself, he just has to learn the ropes. Be consistant with training and don't get too involved with the alpha stuff :)

Rather than read books about "Alpha" dogs, you'd be better off reading "The Perfect Puppy" by Gwen Bailey. You'll find it far more informative and helpful. There are very few truly dominant dogs around, and the average dog owner will never come across one.

All puppies playbite when they are excited, it's automatic. Your job is to prevent the games rousing him so much - cool things down when you can see he's starting to get OTT. Don't worry, you've got a puppy that sounds 100% normal, so enjoy his puppyhood (and let him enjoy it too - it's his birthright)!
