Hello all

Just looking for a bit of advice, my youngest Gladis is a year old and is on her second season, she has been particularly heaving and is spotting everywhere, I just wondered what you all do, I have bought some infants cotton pants and have put them on her, what does everyone else do. She doesn-t seem to mind having them on her at all.
I have never had to go through this before as our other dog, Hilda was spayed when we got her. As I am not going to breed from Gladis, do you think I should get her spayed?

Hi Jolene,
Before I had my bitches spayed (at 8 year and 6 years, and onlybecause I had 2 entire males in the house then!) one would be very clean, and the other would drip like a knacker's truck all over the place, for the whole season. I just used to wash the throws on the furniture every day, and mop up the spots while they were still wet and easy to clean.

If Gladys doesn't mind wearing the pants, go for it. It'll make life easier for you. (I have seen special bitch pants and pads in the petshops, but never tried them).

Hi Jeangenie

She does drip everywhere, I am not really bothered about my house, its just when I take them round to my sisters, my mums etc and it stops Hilda following her around trying to clean her up, not very pleasant I know. Do you think it would be best to get her spayed, as we are not going to breed from her then?

You should have seen the state of the kitchen floor in the morning - you'd realise how accurate the simile was! ;) :D

Hi Jolene

Firstly must say and have been meaning to say for ages I just love your girls names ! :) If I have already done so I will do it again !!

When I had Mars and Min in season together they were both like dripping taps. LOL@JG for her description !!

They were both very lazy girls and didn't clean themselves up and so I used knickers on them. They even wore them whilst out on walks ! You could see they felt very embarrassed to be seen out !! :D

Moose is the total opposite, she is a fussy girl and will make sure she keeps herself clean and if she does drip then she will clean the floor as well !

Not sure how MB will be a she is a bit more aloof and think she may well leave it upto somebody else to do. Probably Moose will do the honours !

Chloe and Julia, get those boys toughened up ! :D Fancy being embarrassed ! Big willy wofters !! :D

daisy keeps herself really clean, its hard to know when she's in season apart from the pmt and milo on her back.lol.she wouldn't wear knickers though so its just as well, she'd probably be a thong girl:)

I kept my bitch in sanitary pants for dogs and used maxi thins. Me personally if I don't intend to breed from them I will spay my bitch. I kept a female from a litter and decided not to breed from her and I had her spayed. It all depends if u urself wants to deal with her coming into heat (possible pyro, false pregnancies, mammery, ect.) that u have to watch out for or just spay her so u don't have to deal with any of it.

ttfn :)

Hi, personally, if I had a bitch I wasn't intending to breed from I would definitely get her spayed. Not only to stop the mess (love all the various descriptions!!) and male attention, but also for future health problems. I've got an old labrador who my husband never had spayed and she nearly died from a pyrometra (spelt right?????) and his dad had a collie who had mammary tumours for the same reason. I believe that you have to wait about 3 months after her season if you are intending to spay her.

Thanks to all who have replied. I didn-t realise that you could get sanitary pants for dogs, may have to look in the petshop. I am seriously thinking about getting her spayed now since people have mentioned the problems that can occur should I not.

Once again thanks to all
