Does anyone know the laws and what you can do about dogs going on other peoples property. My sister lives in a house with a open front garden but the person next door lets his dog go on her lawn, it as not messed but just wees on her plants. She has spoke to the man but he says well your cat goes in my garden. We have always had dogs and have never allowed them to do this. Is there any thing she can do as she is getting no joy from the man.
thanks marty

sorry, if i lived next door and your cats where using my garden for a loo---id not see the problem in my dog peeing on your plants--apart from the obvious of that a dog shouldnt be wandering of course-but pee for pee--------its about right,

Out of common courtesy and neighbourliness he should refrain his dog from entering the garden but legally I cannot see your sister having any redress - cant really imagine a dog being done for trespass . ;)

Thanks for your input but the owner is responsible for the dog, so its him i need to find out if i can do anything about.

He also as a cat which uses my garden as a loo(which is fare enough, as cats do what they want anyway) so that makes 2 pees for 1 pee. I glad i dont live next door to you Dizzy

why is it fair enough, why should anyone have to have someones cat coming in and fouling or peeing in there garden, ????????????
im sorry, but i dont think its right, --as for being pleased you dont live next to me, why??? my dogs are secured, theyre never ever able to leave my garden , theres a fence and 6 foot hedge all the way around too, the dogs hardly ever bark and ive never ever in all the years ive lived here had a complaint, so if you dont want to live next door cos id not allow your cat to use my garden as a loo, ??????? fine by me, , and you asked about someone elses circumstances, not mine,

its an abbreviation for "for f**** sake".... and, for what its worth...i agree with you dizzy.
Marty - if she really wants to make a point and stop the guy, then perhaps she should stop her cat peeing on his garden?

I am sure you can get some sort of spray to stop this ask at your pet shop, then she could put it down on her front garden and hopefully it will stop the dog.
I wish my cat would do her business only in my garden but she spends a fair amount of time in other neighbours' gardens too, not sure where she does the majority. Are there any ways to teach them this, bearing in mind she is now 12, and prefers to keep away from the children and dogs? I personally do not let my dogs wee up anyone's plants but accept that outside cats are free ranging, though I have checked that she is not a nuisance in any way.

hayley, ---at least youd prefer her going in your place--and if a neighbours dog cr-pped in your garden would you think it unfair if your cat was in all probability using his the same way, or would you feel live and let live?
i cant see why folk should think it ok for cats to foul a garden of someone, -yet create if a dog does, and no mine dont, as i said theyre not ever out of my garden, unless with me and on a leash,

Me personally I would put up a little fence around my garden. Then I would also keep my cat indoors. I really can't stand cat pee/poo it stinks worse then dogs

. I have a cat that always messes on my sidewalk, lawn, flowerbed and I squirt the lil rascal with a water gun and they have seen me. I have thought about putting up a live cat trap which is very humane. The owners get a warning then a fine. Not sure if I'll do it but it is tempting. I never let my dogs run all over and I always carry baggies when I'm out, and when I had cats they stayed indoors so I know they are safe - wouldn't allow my dog free roam so I sure the heck woudn't allow my cat they are no differnt in my eye's in that respect. The other thing I thought about was picking up the poo and depositing it on their step or mailbox with a lil letter attached - kinda like mail lol :D

Even if the dog was on a lead it would still be possible for the dog to wee on plants/flowers so I fail to see really what action could be taken against the owner .
I suppose if you had a friendly community policeman he might just have a word but other than that I dont think there is a law he could be held under . Maybe if he was pooing (the dog not the owner - but then again you never know these days ) as the owner has a responsibility to clear up ater his dog.

I have just joined this forum and i thought it was about helping each other, but when i have read what a lot of you have to say it seems to be non construtive rubbish with no help given. If you have nothing construtive to say then whats the point in answering because that is no help to anyone.
Marty i would get in contact with the dog warden in your area so then they will be able to go and have a word with this chap.

How strange, Bella666 - I checked your profile, and suddenly your email contact was hidden. But not before I noticed that 'martyb' was coincidentally close to your own addy! How could that happen, Martine?

Maybe Marty and Gerard are related! You never know. They might even know each other. In the original post his sister had the problem, now it seems to be happening at Marty's house too! :-) What an unluck family they are!!
Cheers
Norm

Yet another relative? Wish I had a troll antenna, I'm never sure and expend no end of righteous indignation on those who prove to be, shall we say a little less that genuine.
