Hello, just to start with I want to make it clear that I have no intentions on breeding, my dog is neutered. I would like to know if it is possible to have pedigree dogs (which are not kc registered ) screening tests done. You may say there is no point but I would really like to know what my dogs results would be.
Any help would be appreciated.

I think its great that you are wanting to have health checks done on your dog-whatever the reason.Unfortunately you can't have hip scores done without KC registration.Don't know about eye test etc

Hello,

I wrote the visiters question as guest, thankyou for answering me Archer. I feel really disapointed that this can not be done. Actually I'm not quite sure how it all works, could you tell me who does the actual tests and results?

Hips are evaluated by a panel of scrutineeers (Ortopaedic specialists) for the BVA/KC scheme. The same with eyes, except you have to see a panelist to go through the scheme, wheras your own vet takes the hip x-rays, and they are sent in.

There is one way that your dog could go through the scheme. you could register your dog with the KC Working register. This identifies the dog so that it can take part in KC working disciplines (Obedience, Agility etc). You will then have a registration certificate that identifies your dog as an individual, and should be able to go through the scheme.

You can down;oad the form from the KC website, click on forms.

best of luck

Hi, it is possible to have eye tests done without the dogs being KC reg - I have my pet done at the same time as the rest of the gang. It took a little time to persuade te vet the first couple of times, but no problem now. It was my choice not to reg. him, but he is part of the family group, so his results are as valuable to us (and the breed) only thing is, his results dont get published in the Breed REcord Supplement, but I send them in for publication in our club eye compendium.
bye

Hello again,
thanks for all your help, I think it should be personnal preference if you want your pet dogs tests done. I can't see a problem with that. I don't mind if it is not published in the BRS as its for my peace of mind only. Why do you think that vets can hesitate to do them?
Hear from you soon,
Rooky
