Hi all,

Not happening for a month or two, but need to plan ahead.

Do I put Rufus in the kennels for 2 days whilst we move house, or
try and keep him with us, so not to unsettle him too much?

What is everyones opinon or experiences?

Look forward to hearing from you!

I kept my Dane with me when we moved - moving again in 5 weeks, and I'll keep him with me then. Just keep him in the kitchen, and retreat in there every 5 minutes to get out of the way!! :)

Why not let a friend/relative look after him. I'd be worried that in the chaos someone accidentally let the dog out of the room you have them in or would be stressed just hearing the goings on elsewhere in the house. My house is open plan so no kitchen to shut her in (plus she's not used to being shut anywhere in the house so that would stress her out even more).

We kept the dogs with us when we moved. We just kept them out of the way. On the day of the move, we gave them a really good run in the morning and put them in the car whilst the removal men were there. We then gave them another good run before we set off. We gave them a quick walk on the way (we moved about 3 hours away). We then kept them in the car until the removal men had gone and then we got them out and they were in the house when we were sorting stuff. We also kept the cats with us.

I agree its dependent on the house...but I think its a good idea to expose dogs to as many occurances as possible...and you never know when you might need to move again... It only took 2 hours for the van to be loaded, if you make sure you get everything packed and ready to go then the removal people can be in and out in ten mins. I've moved 7 times in 9 years, and have always kept my dogs with me.

Thanks everyone,

I too thought it would be best to keep him with me, as I didn't
like the idea of him leaving our present home to go to the boading kennels, never to return to his old home again. He may have been
forever wondering if he would ever go back.

My mum has offered to look after him for a few hours which may be
a good idea for practical reasons i.e. moving large furniture in and doors being left open etc.

Thanks for putting my mind at rest, think I will just keep him in the kitchen for majority of time with lots of toys and treats.

Thanks!
Louise

ps Chloe are you a glutten for punishment or what????? :-)
