Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Help I am pregant and have a puppy
- By guest [gb] Date 06.07.03 21:08 UTC
I have just found out i am pregant which is very high risk due to a brain bleed I had last year. I have two golden retrivers who I love very dearly one is 3 1/2 and the other is coming up to 9mths. My dielimma is that my husband has asked me to find a home for the puppy because if any thing happened to me he would not be able to look after both dogs. I would find the puppy a home within the the retriver show circle because that is my hobby with them and I would want to be kept updated about her progress and life.
My question is am I doing the right thing for both my dogs and family I feel so guilty for giving her away but I can see my husbands point of view.
Any advise would be gratefully recived.

Nicky

Sticking my head above the parapet here - you seem to be putting the cart before the horse. It's okay making contingency plans, but there's no need to put them into operation before the event, so to speak. If you rehome the puppy, and then turn out to be perfectly okay, you are going to resent your husband (or I would, anyway).
I can't tell you what to do, of course, but if it were me in your situation I would be asking my friends in the breed if they would have one of the dogs, but to keep their fingers crossed it didn't come to it.
Hope this helps. But it probably doesn't. Sorry.

Nicky, I agree with the others. May I suggest that you discuss this with the breeder of your puppy. I am sure that if the worst did happen, then she would be only to willing to step in and help out. In the mean time, try not to worry about something that may not happen. If you feel that you can not cope with a baby and a puppy, then again speak to the breeder of your dog.

I agree with Jeangenie, Liberty and Admin. Make contingency plans by all means, and make sure the parties involved understand, but I see no need to actually do it unless the worst comes to the worst.

Hope everything turns out OK
