hi,
i was wondering if anyone knows of any restrictions that can stop you erecting tall fences on your own property? i am looking to move house soon and i know any house i buy will not have sibe proof fencing. my current house has tall walls already, but i was wondering if i have to build new perimeter fences if there is a limit to how high you can have them. as we are talking sibes here i am thinking ideally of 8 foot.
any info would be much appreciated,

I think you'll find that you need planning permission if you want to erect a fence exceeding 2 metres (6ft 6in). I think it's less if the boundary is adjacent to a road. The only way to tell for sure is to contact the council's planning office in the area you are moving to.

Quick tip if you are in the UK. If the council say you cannot fence any higher remind them that legally it is your duty to keep the dogs on your premises and the only way you can achieve that is by erecting higher fences.You will find it is a great lever as it worked for me in the past.

Could you erect a fence of the max height, and then add a trellis on top?
Not sure how legal it would be, but could be a way round things.

If it turns out you can only go to two meters you can always go up about two meters and then bend the top back over and back in to your property. It makes it harder to climb and harder to jump over, although I'm sure not impossible.

When I had GSDs I installed two fences. One was chain link and the outer fence was wood. It's more expensive and to be honest I did not do it on purpose. The wooden one went up to cut down on barking after I already had the chain link one installed. If one was jumped there was not enough room between the two fences to jump the second fence.
