We have recently taken on a young female dog (8 months) as a companion for our older dog (8 years). The old boy has been neutered since he was 3. The new lass can't be done for another few weeks, say the centre we got her from. The two occasionally don't get on indoors but outdoors they are fine.
As of yesterday, every time they are out in the garden, they will play, then they will start, err, humping. It certainly doesn't appear to be dominance humping, rather it appears to be "normal" male-female activity. He never does this with any other female he's met, but they've all been spayed.
Is this normal behaviour? Should I discourage this? It looks a bit funny in the front garden at any rate! I know I seem a bit dopey here but in all the time I've had males and females I have never had this.

Thank goodness !! :)
The only other dog that he 'tries it on with' is a large, male, chocolate lab called Sydney who is entire :D Why, I don't know - fortunately the owner sees the funny side and Syd doesn't seem to mind :)
