Evertime I try to cook rice in the Microwave it either overflows or boils dry and overcooks. What am I doing wrong? I am at present about to clear up my microwave again as the gluey type water has gone all over the place. I am having to do rice daily as my Golden Oldie is poorly and not eating very much.

Hi Sweep
I have to say I don't waste my time doing rice on the Microwave as it takes just as long as on the hob. If you have to feed rice daily - get yourself a huge pan and boil a large amount then freeze it in single serving sized bags and just pop that in the microwave for a minute or two as and when you need it. Rice freezes brilliantly and defrosts great on the microwave afterwards.
After you've cooked your rice - run the cold tap over it to make it cold - that stops it cooking and from going sticky - then bag it up.

I have cooked rice in the microwave for years without any bother. I have a microwave rice cooker from Lakeland Limited [link]http://www.lakelandlimited.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/GBP/DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=jvegBFDRUvMyCW_TZTusAvgRM0K1drd92Mk=?ProductID=qK_Cy5OSflgAAADjOoqEgEQP[/link]
They are fantastic - never goes wrong. My son has one for uni - it's about the only thing that he can cook :D
The only problem is that unless you want to buy something else, the P & P is expensive.

Edited - link doesn't work - try [link]www.lakelandlimited.com[/link] they are a brilliant company - the customer service is excellent
Still can't get the links to work :( - you get the idea any way :)

I think you can buy frozen rice now can you ?
I tend to buy the boil in the bag ones as I always cook WAY TOO MUCH !! :)
On the hob (Delia way) put required amount of rice into pan, then double the amount of boiling water (I add a flavoured rice cube for us at this point), bring to the boil, then simmer lightly for 15 mins, by this time rice will have absorbed all the water, take off the heat, cover for a few mins with a tea towel to absorb any excess moisture, and serve!
I could never get rice right until I found this method
Good luck with your oldie
