hi everyone! i promised myself i wasn't going to post on here again but its just too addictive! my pups are now 12 days old and they are just beginning to open their eyes. one of my pups has one eye ever so slightly open but one that is still closed, i noticed that she was beginning to open her eye early this morning but it is still not fullly open- is it normal for them to take this long? or am i just being impatient again! :p
thanks for any advice!

You're being impatient - it takes a while! Best thing now is to keep them out of direct light while their eyes are still adjusting. I have our whelping box under a table with curtains all around to make a nice enclosed den, and at this stage I make sure the curtains are closed as much as possible.

Edited to clarify: They shouldn't be in the dark, just have their light levels dim.

thanks for replying so quick! ill go and put the lid back on the whelping box now because that seems to make it quite dark and shady- we took it off for the actual whelping. thanks for the advice :)

Hi, could I just ask at what age do the puppies open their eyes? Thanx, Louise.

Hi Nicki and Lizzie...

My pups are 15 days today, and all of them opened their eyes on days 11 and 12....It's so fantastic!!

I'm not sure how much they can see yet....one or two are sort of following my finger if i move it in front of them, and they are trying to walk after their mom when she moves!!

This is my first litter....and every day there's something new and exciting happening with the babies...it's absolutely amazing!!!

Good luck with your pups!

hello! finally weve got two with both eyes open, another with part of an eye open and the last two with nothing but im sure they will open in their own time! your right it is so exciting and amazing that they have blue eyes- but they will darken with age, though i think blue suits them to a point! im just glad they are all still thriving because iv read so many horror stories on ths board where peole have ended up with all their litter dead- gosh how cheerful i am! anyway good luck with all your pups! :p
