Hi, can someone give me some advice. I need to buy a couple of benching chains for my 2 beagles for a show in August. I have a mail order catalogue and there are three different sizes - 1.6mm, 2.5mm and 3.0mm. Which of these would be best? Also, is there anythnig else I need - I'm not intending to buy a cage for them at the moment.

I would go for the medium size chain.
Have you got your ring clip? something for the dogs to lay on on the bench? Other wise its just the obvious -grooming equipment ,water and bowl etc..

I'd get the thickest chain, you don't want it to break or anything.
Also, don't forget a chair for yourself! Plus all the normal things like show lead, dogs water, brushes etc, dog coat in case it's wet, blanket for dog to lie on, etc etc. Make a list of all the things you need before the show so you can just check them off - also stops the bad feeling you get driving down the motorway thinking you've forgotton something!

Hi
I thought the 3mm thickness chain may be a bit heavy for a beagle-more suitable for Lab or GSD size.A beagle being on the smaller end of medium size might find a thick chain a bit much after several hours on the bench.I use a 2mm chain on my 20 Kg Elkhounds and its more than adequate.
Making is list is a great idea-I do it before every show or else I'd forget something really important!!
