Ive been just updating my records (as breed rescue coordinator)
This year we have rehoused 83 Labs of which 16 were homed in June alone .that doesnt include oldies in our care or dogs we have helped from their own homes.
So if you weigh up there are 12 named organisations for Lab rescue in the breed rescue booklet It would be interesting to know how many countrywide.
Its very worrying.

Glenys

How does this compare year on year since you have been running the rescue ? I would be interested as it does seem to be getting busier and busier for you :( :(

This is not to do with your comment, but you have given me an idea. I am looking to buy a golden retriever, do you know of rescue places looking to rehome golden retrievers. I am from Teesside. Any additional information about rescue centres would be good too. I dont much about them and how they work.

There is one - a ten year old GR has just been homed with an elderly gent who lives on a boat near here.

It nearly had me in tears to see how happy the dog was the other day - he'd just had a walk around the village and was flat out on the towpath in the sun. What a nice ending :)

Last month we organised a meeting of all small rescues including 5 specific breed rescues, Shih Tzu, Larador, Bichon, Staffie and Dalmation. All agreed that there has been an increase in each breed rescue from 10 per year to between 200-300 in the last year. Most were suffering genetic defects and many had to be PTS having come from puppy farms. But as hard as we try the real stumbling block is the local authorities who are reluctant to prosecute those breaking the law. If and when the council trading standards take action against the proprietors of unlicensed breeding establishments ,we in rescue, will have cause to celebrate
