how old should a rottie stud be before he is bred the first time? I am not a breeder, but am looking for a puppy and one of the breeders I called has a litter that the Father is only a year old. This is his first litter, and he is a large dog, with alot of "losse skin" she says, so will have a lot of growth yet. This sounds like she has bred him kind of early to me. Am I correct in assuming this?

at a year old a rott shouldnt have lots of loose skin , infact all through theyre growth ive never seen one with loose skin, you sometimes get whats called a throaty dog, but its not desirable. at a year it cant of had its hips done, so should of at least had an xray to check all's ok,

A Rottweiler shouldn't be used at stud until he's had his hips x-rayed and scored, which can't be done until he's a year old.
