Type labradoodle into the search facility in the top right hand corner of the forum page and you will find lots of past threads on this subject. You might also like to type tail docking, fox hunting and cages into it at the same time ;-)

I've met a few in England ("standard" size) and, at the risk of upsetting those who like them, I'm afraid I wasn't impressed. I can honestly say I've seen much better looking mongrels and the owners/breeders admitted that there is enormous variability in the "breed" both in looks, temperament and coat, and that they don't need do health checks because the breed have 'hybrid vigour'

- I've had a hybrid and he cost me a small fortune in vets bills, turned out to be possibly the most expensive dog I ever owned and the only one I had for 'free' ;).
If people want a dog of that size why not have either Poodle, Labrador or hey there's already a Curly Coated Retriever :D they wouldn't cost any more and you'd have a fair idea of what you're getting:D
getting off my high horse now :D

Apart from Curlies., for smaller size there is the Irish Water Spaneil;, then going rare the Lagotta, and Spanish Water dog, and as you say there is a breed standard, and within the normal range the pups will be trtue to their breeds type. The owners will have better idea of what the pups will be like in size coat and characteristics.
Maybe I will be naughty in future and when we get these posts wanting one will just do links to these breeds!!! :D

The history of the labradoodle is interesting, and there seem to be some people who are trying to breed them carefully. I've seen some lovely ones. This website is worth a look. [link]www.labradoodle.org/AHistoryRM.html[/link]

I was not going to post on this thread because most of you know my views but with 33000 labradors bred in a year I would not have thought it needed any more mongrels in rescue
Seems the trolls are still around!

If someone has a view a little different from yours John, it means that they are a troll? That's unfair. I simply posted a genuinely interesting website on labradoodles being bred in Australia and used as guide dogs.

They started using them here in England for this, but it didn't work out from what I hear, they varied so much. Of course I have SWD's so I'm biased:D

The dog rescues are full of cross breeds and mongrel Kazdap without people deliberately breeding them. If anyone wants one it would be better to give one of those a home. Don’t you agree?

I agree John!! Totally, wholeheartedly.....I'm sick to death of hearing this Labradoodle stuff...it drives me mad. Way too many cross breeds in rescue already....I for one, have four rescues...wish I could take more, but unfortunately I don't have the room.
The really sad thing is....it's up to people (like me) to try and give these dogs a better home, and we can only do so much....why deliberately breed more?
It's totally beyond me!
Take care
