Hello, I have been looking around for a stud dog and I have come accross dogs of all different ages. Whats the mininum age a dog should be and whats to old. Can anybody help?

Hi,
I wouldn't want to use a stud dog of less than a year old, because of all the necessary health checks against hereditary diseases, some of which cannot be done until the dog is 12 months old; and a stud's fertility seems to decline at about 10 years of age.

Often an older stud is a better bet because you can see the quality of his previous progeny, and of course longevity is always good.
