Topic Dog Boards / General / RSPCA Axe jobs
- By lel [gb] Date 24.06.03 20:54 UTC
Reported in my local paper tonight ;

Hundreds of jobs to go at RSPCA regional centers but bosses saycthe cost saving will not affect frontline officers and inspectors . Redundancies are expected at North West HQ IN Oldham with 200 staff axed in 10 regional outposts .Calls are being directed to a control centre in London .
Union accuses the RSPCA of treating staff with contempt over job losses .

We will have no chance of getting one to come out on call now !!

We no longer have a Welsh HQ, or an animal centre in Cardiff or North Wales anymore.

Oh. My. God.
They've got how much in the bank and they're axing jobs??
Word fail me :(

The money is only used for building nice new HQ though :(
Even though theres no staff to put in them

look on the other RSPCA topic, you will learn how much they now have
- By lel [gb] Date 25.06.03 18:32 UTC
So what are they doing with the money exactly - besides stuffing their own pockets? :( :(
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 25.06.03 18:35 UTC
Employing more pen-pushers to staff their new buildings?

My local TV news programme reported that Barns Hill dogs home in Birmingham is facing closure too, - the kennels are in desperate need of refurbishment, and apparently they don't have the funds to put things right.

I find it quite distressing that they are thinking of axing so many jobs, when we as a so called dog loving country have so many cruelty/neglect cases.
Like so many industries they think of the top jollies and no-one else.
I was unaware that they were thinking of shutting the barnes hill site. Thats a shame! I know they do the best they can there. Perhaps they should use their pot of dosh to refurb. (something i will be contacting them about!)
A friend of a friend had her dog treated there just last week and im told the treatment was second to none.....
To many of you... it might be a surprise.

A lot of previous posts about the RSPCA seem to be complaining that they had too many staff. Seems that now they are getting rid of a lot but keeping the inspectors and other front line staff they are in the dog house too. Obviously no matter what they do they can't win.
- By lel [gb] Date 26.06.03 21:03 UTC
The point I wanted to get across was the amount of money they have and they are sacking people .
Do you think the money they save from redundancys will go on the animals ? I dont think so some how .
- By mayhem [gb] Date 27.06.03 20:25 UTC
Llys Nini was down to their last £140,000 and were pleading for funds to keep the centre open. £100,000 had to be kept aside to be used as redunancy pay for their seventeen staff. Watch Small Change 4.25pm 7th July BBC. This has been described as a dog concentration camp. RSPCA said if the dogs were removed there is nowhere for them to go and they would have to be euthanased and will not allow us to bring in breed rescues as it is against their policy. No sleep for us tonight.

Can you explain why breed rescues are against their policy ?
If they have the best intrests of the animals at heart , surely breed rescues are more beneficial with regard to rehoming ?

Only the RSPCA have the authority to remove these dogs, but refuse to give it. I perhaps did not explain properly, it is against the policy of the RSPCA to pass dogs to rescue. The breed rescues are willing to take them but I have to arrange a vet to give us permission, it would be immpossible to remove them illegally, there are over 50 dogs to rehome.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 28.06.03 17:36 UTC
This is a policy that infuriates me, Lel! Many won't even inform breed rescues if a specific breed is brought into a kennel, so that it could either be moved out to make space in their kennels for another dog, or check it for tattoos etc to try to trace the breeder who, if reputable, would be willing to help. You'd have thought they'd be glad of all the help they could get.
- By lel [gb] Date 28.06.03 17:51 UTC
I find that sickening actually :(
What is the RSPCAs reasoning for this ?? As you say it is making room for another dog if a dog could be passed to a breed rescue . What would their anwer be if the breed rescue approached them and asked for a specific dog ? I really cannot see why this is against their policy .
Does the RSPCA liase wth anyone else with regard to rehoming .
I am shocked because I would have thought all the rescues would have helped each other .
I'm sure theres lots of people not aware of this - the RSPCA should be made to answer !!!!

Going back to the sacking topic.....
Could it not be a publicity stunt? To make (try) and get people to give money.....

Donna
it wouldnt even surprise me !! :(
Would you not feel guilty being one of the bigwigs in this company knowing how many dogs your ENORMOUS pay packet could save ?????
:(

On Saturday we passed the local Rspca (Barnes hill, bham) They were having a FUN(???) day.
I did notice that on a whole the dogs waiting to be rehomed, were well looked after. I fell in love with an old staffie bitch. What the h*ll was she doing there in the first place??
What was any of the dogs doing there?
They said they were trying to raise money for a refurb....

Having made 5 calls to the RSPCA we went to a puppy farm on Tuesday (15 of us). The owners called the police and I put in an emergency call to the RSPCA. Next morning the RSPCA called me and asked what the hell I was doing putting in an emergency call late at night. Actually it was 7.45 pm. Some of the dogs need veterinary treatment but they still refuse to send a vet. Some animal charity!!!

My views of the RSPCA are unprintable. :-(
