Can some explain to me what it means when a breeder tells you they get full breeding write when you purchase the dog. Being a breeder has full writes and they also want YOU to send the dog back to them to breed is this at their cost I would hope!! What does it mean when a breeder says a dog is lefty or writie?

not sure which country you are in, but in the UK there is such thing as "breeding terms".....rather than breeding RIGHTS. usually means you get the bitch for a minimum amount & either jointly own (on paper)her or own her on paper but have to allow the breeder to have a litter, with their choice of stud dog & usually a puppy as well. The KC offer advice on breeding terms contracts.

Sam, thank you for replying, I am in the US and am considering purchasing a champion rare breed adult male 7+ years breeder want to keep him intact with "full breeding writes" I would "own" him. Breeder wants me to fly him back to them when they are ready to breed their bitches. I have not done this before and I looking for feedback on what I should be looking and asking for in the contract? I of course would expect them to pay for him to be flown back + I would like to breed him as well?

Right....not somehing that happens much here in UK but no doubt your AKC could offer some advice. Must admit its not something I would want to get into....I like to be able to make my own decisions & there is likely to be a time whern you dont agree with the bitch they want him used on, or its not convenient for you to travel etc etc....thats when the problems usually start. Good Luck! :)

I have a bitch, over which the breeders have full breeding rights, so just slightly different. My terms are, when the bitch is to be bred from, she is transfered back into the names of her breeders, with the Kennel Club(she is normally registered in the joint three names), mated to a stud of their choice, and goes back to them to deliver her litter. I will get the bitch back plus one puppy. I did NOT pay anything for this bitch in the first instance, but her day to day upkeep is my responsibility.
Breeding terms vary so much, you need to be sure you understand fully what you're getting into. It's one or other party varying the terms to suit themselves that causes problems.
