Was wondering whether anyone knows where I can get car window grilles from (think that's what they're called!) - so that we can have the windows 'open' without the dogs being able to escape. Any info much appreciated.

Halfords or other car shop. Or Argos. They might be with the kiddies stuff!

Pets at home, and most pet shops carry them - sometimes they only have one or two about and you have to look. I've also found them at markets.

I use one but I feel I should point out that in some case, because it's possible to get your finger on the top of the window, you can sometimes force the window right down making it easy to break into the car.

Hi John,
The main reason I want them is to give the dogs 'air' when we go on the ferry in Oct, as they have to stay in the car. I can't think of any other alternative, as we're not going to have room for a cage, so can't just leave all the windows open for them - our Aussie would definitely be off!!

Hi Hilda. I use one when my car is in a private place but if your car is an estate or hatch there is a neat gadget which extends the tail gate lock allowing the tailgate to be held open at the bottom by about 2 inches. Great for ventilation but completely safe. I can’t tell you what they are called but I know Jo Flatcoat has one.

I got metal window grilles from Barjo. I didn't like the plastic ones as I felt it would be too easy for someone to snap them if they applied force. Barjo have a website where you can choose which car you have and order grilles to suit.

Thanks for the replies everyone! The Barjo ones look great - I'll definitely go for those - I notice they do a sunroof one as well. Just have to wait till Monday now till hubby gets back with the car so I can measure the windows!
