Hi Lel

How is the Atkins Diet going? We are still making up our minds whether to try it, or to do the Slimming World one (Can still have the carbs, just not at the smae meal as the other stuff)

Hi Hayley
Yes I am still on it - have just completed the second week and I have lost 8 pounds so far . I dont have a great amount to lose but I can certainly feel it in my clothes already :)
I tried the Slimmers World about seven years ago and found it quite good although for me the weight loss was slow . I stayed around my target weight until last year when the weight has started to creep slowly on .
I do find it easy leaving out bread and potatoes and pasta . The only problem has been alcohol at the weekend . God I could have died for a glass of white wine last saturday :) .
So yes , so far it has been ok . Have not suffered any of the side effects that can occur except for a headache once or twice .
I am going to a wedding next Friday so I am sticking to it rigidly til then at least :)

By the way on the Slimming World Diet you tend to lose more on Red Days rather than Green days

I don't really need to lose any weight, though a few pounds would certainly make be feel a little healthier, what I really want is a diet that is healthy and stops me feeling so lethargic, which can be caused - I am led to believe - by carbs and processed sugar etc. I'm not a big drinker, though I would miss the odd Bud or glass of white wine, oh yes and Pimms in the summer!

Can you drink on Slimming World??!!! And do you have to go to the classes? Steve is more keen on the actual losing of weight so he is hoping to do the Atkins - not sure what will happen to family meals if we go ahead with this!!!

yes you can drink on Slimmers World although it is counted as sins and each drink has so many sins . As I say its seven years since I went ,so slight things may have changed but not too many I presume .
How in depth have you researched it ? You can have meat days which is classed as a red day or veggy days which are classed as geen . There is also a list of free foods which you are able to eat freely throughout the day . You do always feel full and you are allowed so many sins per day .
You dont have to attend the classes . Get your books on registration , and get the general whist of things and continue at home but the classes do provide the motivation . Not sure if you still have to pay for missed classes though :(
Let me know what you decide and how it goes .
With Atkins by the way you can still eat cooked breakfasts - just leave the bread out so you dont actually feel as though you are dieting .
After the 14 day induction period it doesnt say you have to restrain from alcohol - plus I have found that Vodka and Gin contain no carbs :D. Guess what I'm on Saturday night :)

My only problem is that I don't eat any red meat (by choice) so red days could get a bit boring on the Slimmers World and on Atkins probably the same, but I really want to start eating more fish so that would be good - I take it fish is included on a red day - not sure how I could get on without rice and potatoes, our fave meal is a roast! I must get on the Slimmers World website, it is apparently really good,
Thanks for the info, need to do some thinking

Just over three weeks now since I began the Atkins Diet .
I have found it a doddle actually and I am so pleased as I have lost 9 pounds so far . :D I can feel the difference in my clothes and yet I can have big fry ups , cream , cheese , -foods you'd normally not be able to eat on a diet .
Only wanted to lose a stone at the most so I am well on the way . :)
Have not had any side effects and I am really pleased .

Hayley - did you make up your mind which diet to choose ?

Hi Lel
I'd find it really hard to cut out rice, pasta and bread. especially bread, I have a sandwich nearly everyday, and I'd have already had toast for breakfast. What sort of food do you eat instead. I find nearly everything I eat has lots of carbs. What would be your menu, say for 2 days, breakfast, lunch and evening meal. I need some suggestions.
Thanks.
Michelle.

the foods you mention were probably my staple diet - bread , potatoes, pasta . I also dont eat a huge amount of meat and the fact that you could eat fatty , high calorie foods just didnt seem to make sense . Thats one of the reasons I took so long to make the decision to try it .
In the morning I will have bacon , egg, tomatoes and mushrooms with black coffee.
For dinner I will have something like ham salad or cheese and mushroom omelette- I am in work at dinner time so have to have something from the canteen that's suitable . For tea I will have stuffed mushrooms, stuffed peppers or a piece of salmon , (as I say , I dont eat loads of meat so my selection is somewhat limited) but you could have chicken , steak , chops with vegetables or salad . And strawberries with cream for afters .
You have to be quite strict for the first 14 days and limit your carb intake to 20g a day but after that it can be upped to 40g and then even higher after that . I snack on cheese, pepporoni sticks ,cheese string sticks , boiled eggs, certain fruits etc . Because your head thinks it is eating "normal" foods you dont feel hungry .
You dont have to weigh anything ou - just eat !!! ;)

Sounds great, I'll definitely give it a try, but I think I'll wait till we come back from our holidays. We are off to Benidorm in a fortnight. (I'll have more to lose by then).
