Our pup 17 weeks old has started to cock his leg when he goes for a wee , however i read that a dog starts cocking his leg when he reaches sexual maturity so has this happened early or was this info incorrect?

It depends on the dog, this is not a sexual maturity thing, it's just their own hormones and some start to kick in quicker than others, but it could be just the beginning of the hormone thing.

One of my friends has a 4 month Bichon boy and he was cocking his leg at about 10-12 weeks old.

Dylan first did this at about 10 weeks. When I mentioned it to his breeder, she was very surprised as her dogs don't normally do it until 18 months or so, and often still squat their whole life. Dylan must have got it from his Dad (along with his love of water).
