Rolo (she was the last one) is our 10 week choc lab and has just finished a weeks course of anti-biotics for cystitis. She responded well and started to be 'good' again training wise. Yesterday she is showing signs of it developing again! I have an appointment to see the vet tonight for her final vaccine jab. Anyone any thoughts? Similar experiences? Will it be wise to have the vaccine? Is cystitis difficult to get rid of?

If you boil up some pearl barley and then squeeze out all the liquid and give that to her to drink, it should help (it's what a nurse advised me to do when I had it). Make sure she drinks loads and loads of fluids to keep her bladder well flushed.
:)

Cranberry juice is supposed to flush it out. Dunno if it works for dogs though.

At that age rather than cystitis maybe it could be jeuvanille vaginitus???(sp)
This is quite commen in young bitch puppies and antibiotics dont always cure it. However it usually completely clears up after the bitches first season with no ill effects.
Sadly some vets keep trying anti biotic after anti biotic to try to cure it when 9 times out of 10 it clears itself. Wonder why?? £££££££££££
Symptoms are frequent weeing sometimes small amounts and sometimes a slimey clear/cream discharge can be seen after she has peed either in the pee or around her vulva. As long as no bad smell and discharge not green, brown or blood stains don't worry.
Edit: Agree with above posts keep her fluids up to "flush" through as much as you can and lemon barely and cranberry are good remedies :-)

We managed to get a urine sample (not easy!!!) and the vet said and it had traces of blood in it so that means an infection I presume. She has put her on a stronger dose because she is bigger now and wouldn't vaccinate her. I trust my vet, she has given her time, clipped nails, refused to treat uneccesarily and sent me away with no charge at times. Thanks for your responses.

As others have said, cranberry juice does work though it can be hard to get the dog to drink it. I've given cranberry capsules instead.

Cranberry capsules can be bought from Asda's and are chaep, I give my 8 year old one a day as she tends to be more prone to cystitis and it keepsit at bay.
