I am looking into getting my first bullmastiff. Up until now I have only had gundogs. Everything that I have read about bullys makes me think that they would be the ideal breed for me, esp their reputation of being good with children. My only reservation so far is that they seem to be quite scarce. Any ideas why such an attractive breed isn't more popular?

Hi believe me Bullmastiffs are not scarce just ask the rescues, there are so many being bred and not all good ones, as some people just want to make money they have a Bitch/Dog dont care if it has bad hips and is sharp just so long as the pups sell there are so many of them out there be very careful where and from who you buy from, where are you from? regards Jackie

I'm in Buckinghamshire. Having had dogs before I'm wary of purchasing from anywhere other than a breeder but when I contacted the kennel club there were no breeders that were in anything like a reasonable travelling distance. Any suggestions as I am really very taken with bullys and keen find out as much as possible about them. Visiting the Windsor show next week. Thanks for taking the time to help. regards Sam.

The
Breed Clubs may be able to help, at the very least they will be able to point you in the direction of reputable breeders which is not necessarily the case with the Kennel Club who will give you a list of people who register pups, not always the same thing :)

Hi
If it is a mastiff breed you like have you considered a French Mastiff (Dogue de Bordeaux) In my opinion the most handsome of the mastiff breeds :-)

Hi there i have got a male bullmastiff who is 4 years old now and i will have a bullmastiff always. They are such a great breed. He loves kids, especially my 8 yr old daughter and just loves attention. He gets on with all the animals in the house especially the cats who normally sleep between his legs!.Also a great guard dog when it's needed. The only problem he gives me is when he meets other male dogs but he just loves the ladies lol!.
