Archie (18 weeks) has just started to hump things which isn't something i particularly want to encourage! however, the few times he has done it i have just let him get on with it - he doesn't really know what he's doing and after a few goes gets frustated and shakes and growls at the object which i have to admit does make me laugh!
what im not sure about is if i should be telling him off and stopping him doing it - he is after all jsut learning and i don't know if i should interfere! however i don't want a dog that humps everything (he will be neutered when the time comes).
so should i tell him off when i catch him or just let nature take its course...?
thanks!

He's being a boy! It's something they do (human boys as well!) and it's harmless. If it bothers you, tell him to "pack it in!" and distract him. If he starts doing it to people's legs or something wildly inappropriate, then tell him "No" and make him sit. Just don't make a big deal out of it and he should get through the phase.

thanks JG - that's what i thought - at the moment he does it to his fave cushion, he does try with out feet but they are a bit of an odd shape for him. i will tell him off if he does it someone's leg but not anything else.
to be honest it is actually very funny to watch him do it - he kinda falls into "position" and then, well, you know! but cos he's quite long he can't reach the crucial part then he gets angry and tries to kill his cushion - it is very cute!

tee hee! archie tried a couple of times when he was much younger but only very occaisionally - my mother was horrified and said he was far too young for that kind of thing! typical man i think!!
My two are always 'at it' with each other (both males).
The other night the two little boys from next door wanted to know why Buddy was riding on Teejay's back. (And I've told them not to do it in front of the children !) ;)

Piggybacks, Joyce!! ;) :D

MB my nine month old Lab is going thro a bonking stage at the moment. She only does it when somebody goes out the house and she she then starts to squeek and then mounts Moose and humps away ! Moose just turns round looks at her as to say' what on earth are you doing?' and walks away and MB falls over ! It is funny to watch ! :D

Hi
My lab is the same he is 17 weeks old and has been doing that since about 12 weeks of age. He has a large dog teddy and he only ever does this to the teddy never tried it on anything else . In oscars case if hes frustrated or having a funny five minutes he takes it out on the teddy in this manner.

Don't mess around with this dog! Get him told off immediately and effectively. It may be a funny little habit now but when he matures and tries this, if a human tries to stop him it could easily result in someone being bitten

Hi
It is just nature as you may have often seen for example cows in a field mounting each other. It is however advisable to tell him no when he does it to discourage him but with with time he grow out of it !
