Hi, could someone please tell me what a scissor or reverse scissor bite is? Thanks Jane

Scissor Bite:
is where the upper teeth just overlap and touch the lower teeth.

Level Bite: is where the teeth meet edge to edge.

Overshot Jaw:the top jaw is longer and overlaps the bottom jaw.

Undershot Jaw: is where the bottom jaw is longer than the upper jaw.

In certain breeds, an undershot jaw this is a breed characteristic.

So a reverse scissor bite is one thit is ever so slightly undershot, with the bottom teeth just overlapping the top!

So do Boxers have a reverse scissor bite or are they undershot? :D

well as I could get a finger in b etween the bottom and top teeth, I think undershot, lol :D

Boxers (like Griffons) are definitely undershot.

Do you ever get any overshot jaws in Griff's Joan ? And if you do, does it cause problems?

I've not seen or heard of any overshot jaws. I have seen wry mouths, or ones who are more undershot than we would like but nothing that has actually caused any problems other than cosmetic problems, certainly nothing that has affected their ability to eat or to live normal lives.

I have heard of a young vet in Preston who operated on a Boxer puppy to put right its 'malformed' mouth, a perfectly normal undershot boxer jaw. Vet had apparently never heard that some breeds were undershot.

I heard the same Joan. You'd think that a vet should know little bit about the breeds they are supposed to be looking at on the table! Though you have to question why the owner let the vet do it as they surely knew what breed they were buying?
