Hello everyone...

Okay so I have Shep out with me all day now and I am taking him out to do his business every hour or so. At night, he is in the crate next to our bed and he does not make a peep (we are letting him out about two or three times through the night). The problem is when I have to leave the house I put him in the crate and he SCREAMS. When I return he is still crying and I have tried to wait until he stops before I let him out...however, this never happens. So i end up taking him out to go pee and then i just keep him out. I think this may be rewarding his crying but the little guy will cry as long as it takes! From the moment he goes in till the moment he comes out. I have also tried putting him in the bathroom with a baby gate...same deal. He is now cornering 10 weeks. Should I be doing something different? Jayne? Any suggestions?

Thanks again.

Most do go through the seperation anxiety - whereby no matter where you leave them , whether crated or not , they will cry and make you feel really guilty for leaving them .
All I can say is it will pass
There was a stage where I couldnt even nip upstairs to the loo without Gus crying his heart out . Babies go through the same thing where they want to be with you constantly . It is normal and pup is very much still at baby stage

Its really difficult getting the balance isnt' it? It may be that he does associate being in the crate with being on his own so have you tried putting him in the crate with a big treat, something he really loves, for about 3 minutes while you are there? If you can get him liking the crate again the problem will be solved, but that's easier said than done.

Can you also pop out for just a few minutes at a time, and gradually extend this? I appreciate you may not be in a position to do this but it really helps the dog understand and accept that when you are away it isn't forever.
