Our 4 month old Lab will not eat his food? What do we need to do? We feed him regular puppy food...could he be gettin tired of it already? Is there any type of "condition" we need to be looking for? Other than this, he seems healthy and loving life!
Thanks,

Hello Tdogger20
Are you still feeding the same food as the breeder advised first of all and how many times and what do you feed him on ?

Puppys do sometimes have a period of going off their food and plus the hot weather as well, this could be the reason.
I would see how your puppy goes and if an a few days time is still not eating,( I presume not at all?) then a visit to the vets may be an idea. I presume he is drinking, weeing and pooing OK ?
Lucy

At 4 months he's only being fed twice? Why did you cut out his middle meal so soon? Perhaps he needs more, smaller meals.

with my experience of greedy, eat anything in their paths labradors that is a cause for concern and you should think about taking him to the vets.

Hi,
He could be teething? sometimes causing them to lose appetite, i've just got through
a stage of fussy eating and not eating just cut a load of teeth. Now has got his
appetite back fed twice a day 4 1/2 months old now and also it has been hot.
It can be quite common for puppies to go off their food for a while, mine was off for about
a month. He is in excellent condition didn't appear to do him any harm.

Hi
Im going to go out on a limb here and say that you are using dry food. We have two labs of whom we feed on a dry mix. One thing you must do is put water or milk in with it, this eradicates the dryness and they can gobble it down without any problems.
We did this and three years on they are still on the dry mix.
Failing that, if it is a wet mix, try changing it, some labs can be fussy! But be warned if you do change it and it does work they may well expect a new variety of food every couple of months! We went through a stage of this with the eldest and even tesco's finest wasnt good enough! :p

My pup of nearly 7 months did the same. In my case tho I found I was feeding him too many human scraps from my own meals. As soon as that was cut out he started to eat his own very fast. Altho He would still sit and watch till we ate our meal and if nothing come his way he would then go eat his own. Sneaky wee thing :)

Don't mean to alarm you but.... labs refusing food are definitely a cause for concern. An immediate visit to the vet seems the best solution (specially if still not eating properly!).
All the best.

What type of food are you feeding? Are you feeding dry alone? Dry with canned? Canned alone? Do you feed specific meals a day? or do you leave dry food down all day?
If you get back to me a rockyford@shaw.ca, I think I can help as I raised Wire Fox Terriers who are the finicky eaters in the Terriers group or at least I think so.

hi
i agree i think your best bet is to take her to the vet just to rule things out pups love to eat stones etc has she been wormed lately this can sometimes put them off their food rather than make them hungrier. probably nothing wrong just got a bit board with food try a little bit of something else mixed in say a teaspoon of tripe just to give it a better smell dogs eat things that smell good rather than taste
if she eats it then you know shes just being fussy with the other food
