GREAT WEBSITE! I've been snooping around for a couple of days now. My problem: my new beagle (3 months) has started to bark at me when I leave the room. I understand that beagles are little howlers...believe me, EVERYONE told me before I got him. But it seems like he is saying, "Hey! Where the hell do you think you are going?" and I would like it to stop. Any suggestions?

...Lisa Marie Presley is singing on the today show right now and I am suprised that my dog isn't barking at that! OUCH! Someone stop her!!!

Hi there!
This is not an easy one and I have experienced the same thing wit my lab. The only answer is your taking the time to make sure your puppy makes the right associations. That means you never giving in and staying in the room because he barks. Leave and put up with the barking if you can. As soon as it stops, for whatever reason, reward him with whatever he likes best (food, cuddles or play time). If the barking resumes (again, for whatever reason) while you are giving him treats or playing with him, stop the treats and the games. He will soon understand that barking is not do be done.... lightly! Beagles are incredily intelligent dogs (have you read "A dog called Perth"?).
All the best!
Pia
