I have a 5 month old male boxer- he is the cutest thing however, he is constantly with the mouthing and nipping. my husband and i have hired a trainer for a crazy amount of $ and he suggested using a choke collar. i have done this for one week and although my pup listens more to me on our walks, the mouthing and biting have not subsided and i find myself literally choking him with this collar.
another trainer suggested the pinch collar to train.... any thoughts out there as to collar types and traiing him not to bite and nip???????????????????????

Hi guest, errrrrrr
i cant actually understand how ANY kind of collar can be expected to cure puppy biting and mouthing?????

There are lots of posts on how to stop this behaviour, join up and do a search on teh topic.

give him treats when good and say NO when he nips
i have to boxers ones 9 weeks and the other is 4 1/2 y old
i use a body harnes on the 4 1/2 y old

but choke collars are not a good idea because the can slip them and you can damaged the airways. so in later live you boxer can have breathing prods

I know eveyone has different ideas but :(.
I would not use a choke collar to prevent biting . All pups bite/mouthe when young . Th best way is to constantly tell "NO!!" when he does it and reward when he stops . If he takes no notice when you say NO , put him in his crate if you have one or go out of the room ( for a very short time only) and then re-enter . It will die down in time .
Could your pup still be teething - if so I dont think its nice to half strangle him :(
