Can anybody please tell me where I can buy a tether for my 2 toy poodles. We have just bought a trailer tent to camp at agility shows and want to be able to tether the dogs safely when it is nice. I have seen some that are really solid and heavy looking which look more substantial than the corkscrew type.

I dont mind which so long as it is safe.

Also, is it safe to tether the 2 dogs together or do they need 1 each so they dont get tangled up?

Thanks
Janex

I bought a tether from Pets at Home for my Cairn. It is like a long corkscrew that you screw into the ground and comes with a long tether that cannot get twisted up on itself. If it works on a Cairn it will definitely work on a toy poodle.

I have been thinkning of getting one of these corkscrew jobs for my lab - are they strong enough for big dogs, does anyone know?

As long as they are well screwed in, so to speak, they are fine. If the ground is very dry or wet it is possible for them to come out but I tethered Boxers with no probs. I bought at a game fair I think a spike with a rotating flat top which had tether points at each corner. That was really good and I would think if you knew the right person they could make one,

Ann,

you beat me to it, I used to use one for my boxer and she never ever got it free and she did nearly everything else, including the 6ft fences.

yes, they are very strong. We have one and have used it on various breeds (including a very boistrous lab) and it stayed in the ground no probs. You can get the same one that is sold everywhere else in wilkinson for £1.99. It is worth it, and much cheaper than other places. It even screws into sand on the beach cos it is quite long.

Hi WL,

My experience is not quite so positive! Firstly, the tether ring did not stay in its intended position for very long at all, so we had to modify the stake to make sure that the ring could not come off. :( Then, two weeks ago, the corkscrew snapped as it was being screwed into the ground, so is now a complete write-off. :( Having said that, it has stood up to a great deal of punishment from a 35kg Flatcoat over a four year period. :D

As long as the ground is not too soft it won't pull out. But, I would say always check that it is secure and there are no weak points before leaving your dog on it. I would also avoid cheap ones as they may not be strong enough. Make sure it is thick steel, and unbendable with all your weight pushing against it, to cope with a heavy boisterous dog. There are definitely some soft ones out there! Hope this helps!

How's your Lab settling in?

Best wishes, Monty's Mum :)
