Please has any breeder out there got a male white boxer, or do you know of any , preferably in the north east yorkshire area .
thankyou CarolynLavagna@aol.com
Hi Guest
Why does it have to be a white boxer? White boxers are very prevalent to cancer, as are grey horses, something to do with the gene.

They are very popular at the moment

Yes they can get sunburnt which *can* cause some skin cancers.
But as in grey horses it's advisable to put suncream on thier sensitive bits such as their ears.
But if you know the Boxer breed, you'll know that once you get your dog to double figures
it's normally cancer that catches them whatever their colour :(
Boxers of ALL COLOURS are sadly prone to cancer
White Boxers are no different to their coloured siblings, only you can't show them or breed from them.
I've had 3 in my litter now 2y.o. and all are healthy and happy and hearing. They all bring much joy to their owners :)
Yes some white Boxers can be deaf, but in the right homes they will thrive, I know of a deaf white Boxer that
competes in agility and I believe has got clear round rosettes etc.
There are many ardent White Boxer fans that will not have anything but a white Boxer.
I love Boxers of all colours :)

ill second that motion

Hi, I've come across a few white Boxers in my time, and yes, they are lovely dogs. And not all are deaf, but the likelihood is higher, so it's best if they are BAER tested so you know for sure. (Mind you, the incidence of deafness in boxers generally is quite high, especially if they have the 'flashy' white markings.)
Deaf animals
can be snappier than non-deaf ones, not through any fault of temperament, but because they are startled so much more - they don't get the auditory clues that they are being approached. And of course you have to be very careful where you let them off the lead.

The ratio of deafness in coloured Boxers is not significantly higher than any other breed and as far as white Boxers are concerned the percentage is around 10 to 12% and no where near as common as people think We have bred only one Deaf girl and we were aware of this by the time she was 5-6 weeks old as any responsible breeder would be, she was placed with a carefully selected family who trained her with hand signals and is most definitely not snappy.
It always makes me laugh at some of the notions people have about white Boxers I have had people on the floor waving arms and legs checking their sight (where do people continually get the idea they are blind?) Banging things to see if they can hear even though I have just given them my assurances and explained how few are deaf, even prodding them to see if they snap when they are startled. Luckily I have always managed to get rid of the idiots!!

There is also further info at Dr Cattanach's site www.steynmere.com
Go to the genetics page and published articles, there's one on deafness and white's he has published in the
small practice journal in 1999.
The 20% is for the Dalmation breed. The article is very interesting.
:)

It's certainly interesting that more than 60 breeds of dog (among them white boxers) have been found to suffer from congenital deafness (white bull terriers 19%, English setters 14%, Border Collies 10%, Cocker spaniels 6% etc).
:)

Just out of curiousity do dogs such as Westie have these same problems. With them being white as a natural colour, I do not really know how to put this, but hope you understand what I mean. Westie are a natural white dog, but boxers are usually for colour

I gather that because a Westie's skin pigmentation is dark (only the hair is white) that it isn't a problem with them! Lucky things!
