i have a bulldog that is 5 months old and he bites everyone, and he means it i mean he is savage!
i called his breeder to tell her of my problems and she told me to scruff him around the neck and give him a shake!
i really do not think that this is the way forward, and other than what she said she was not helpful.
any suggestions on how i can stop this before it gets out of hand with him?

hi Sarah
Firstly, you are absolutely right, what the breeder said is complete rubbish and actually quite dangerous. You are likely to injur and terrify the little puppy by doing that.
When does he get like this? Are there any specific times, eg: touching a certain part of his body, or trying to touch him in his bed etc...
If you work out when it happens, you can then start working out how to stop it.
You need to also show him dominance. Make sure you dont allow him on the sofa, or the bed etc, and you go through doors first, etc. He needs to learn that it is he who is staying in YOUR house, not the other way around.
Good luck

Hello nice to hear from some one with a Bulldog where did you buy him? any way you should not play about with him to much and you should use your voice to stop him and you must start training now at 5 months it is realy time, do you have a training school near, if so check it out as you both need to be trained, lots of luck jackie( by the way i have Bulldogs as well.)

the problem should have been sorted by now the person you bought the pup from is right in what she says to a certain degree (i have a cane corso) at around 7 to 12 weeks the pups are at the age where they bite there parent the mother will only take so many nips then she will nip them back or grab and shake and it will all be done on the scruff of neck your dog needs to understand no biting and the difference between a nibble and a bite when dog bites you cry out regardless hold him by scruff tell him or her no biting and lock him out for 2-3mins so he cannot see you then let him back in room(pups have small brains any longer than 10mins and they forget why theyve been locked out for) if he repeats his behavoir repeat over again never hit your dog for it by holding the scruff firmly your doing what the mother does and hell respect your method its not cruel but i dont advise shaking especially violently it cant be good even though a bitch with a big bosterious litter probably would but thats not to say all bitches make good puppy raisers my boys 10months old and was sorted between 3-4months when we first brought him home when he settled down he bit with alot of strength when playing but soon softened his bite to a aceptable but only with me and no one else hopefully when you get him sorted in the house and he understands the word no biting he will become better outside as well good luck

It's very strange, none of my bitches, or those of anybody I've asked so far, has
ever shaken their pups by the scruff!
To discipline them they hold the pup's head (or just muzzle by the time the pup is fully grown) in their mouth and softly growl. Result: one instantly abashed and obedient pup.

I have three bulldogs, and i would never dream of grabbing them by the scruff, your bulldog thinks he is the boss you need to, speak to the dog in a firm voice, my male bully is five years old and can be naughty like you would not believe, when he, is i put him in his cage for just ten minutes, then out he comes like butter wouldnt melt in his mouth, licking me all over with puppy dog eyes i just melt, bless his heart.

Funny you should mention taht, because my method of admonishing Rocky when he has done soemthing truly heinous, is to take hold of his muzzle and shout at him, which works!!!!!
Have to say, havent done that in a while, cos he is a good boy mostly, and i wouldnt dream of trying it on saffi, shed hide for months! Dilly, well any kind of discipline is water off a ducks back to him, he doesnt care!
