Topic Dog Boards / General / What breed for puppy number 2?

Hi
I have an eight month old Alaskan Malamute puppy, who is a spayed bitch. She is absolutely adorable, but quite stubborn to train! I want to get another dog, partly to keep her company and partly as I love seeing two dogs together when out walking as they seem to enjoy it so much. Mika is very friendly, to humans and other dogs, but I think I will have to get another large dog, or she would dominate with her sheer size. I was thinking of a golden retriever or a german shepherd as I love both these breeds. Anyone have any suggestions on breeds that go with malamutes, or comments on the breeds I have chosen? I would like a dog that is slightly easier to train than a malamute, as once she gets something into her head (ie running off to see other dogs) there is no stopping her, as yet, but I live in hope! Also, I would prefer a bitch, which will be spayed, but will two girls get on ok? Any helpful hints will be gratefully recieved. Thanks Ali.

Hi Ali and welcome to the Forum :)

At 8 months old , Mika hasn't yet got to the *adorable* teenage stage ;) Whilst maybe not as bad as the boys , she will still become a handful in the next few months. I would wait for a while (maybe until after 12-18 months) and then decide what other breed to get ;) I thought Hudson was a handful at 8 months and I was told to expect worse as he got older ...too true :D :D

Melody - Mum to an 18 month Male Mal - Hudson :)
