Hello,
The vet felt add least one pup(which is normal for a Maltese) today when we went to the vet :)She is about 29 days now, and her behavior has changed in the last week or so. She is usually a sweet, cuddle-bug to everyone. Well, now that she's pregnant she has been growling at any animal or person(other than normal animals or people) when they look like they're about the hit me, or hurt me. She has also been cleaning our 4 month old kitten, and protecting him. She still has her sweet side with the family but won't let anyone other than a few friends who are over daily come near me. Is this normal for her to be this protective of me, and the kitten?
Thanks,
Kat

My girl was exactly the same, she 'lives' with 2 other girls normally a happy group, but as soon as she was mated, she was snappy, growled at the constantly and even when she had the pups during the first week she was growling at ME!! which is not like her at all, once she realised that I wasn't going to hurt or take her babies she was happy for me to pick them up, change the bedding etc. When the new owners of the pups were visiting she was growling at them, which made me feel really awkward, I explained she wasn't normally like this and luckily they all understood. She is now back with my other two and back to her normal self.............so try not to worry, it's just her hormones!
