Hi all,
Is it normal to pay the same price for a pet quality pedigree at 12 months - 15 months as you would for a 12 week old puppy?
Any thoughts?

Hi, I couldnt say absolutely for all breeds, but with our bunch we usually ask about half for an older pup or young adult to what we ask for a pup. Of course, this goes for pups sold to pet homes, the reverse applies if we are selling a succesful show pup to a show home:).
bye

Ditto. Seems ludictous in some ways, especially when the breeder has run one on not knowing which to keep, and then lets one go to a pet home at 9 to 18 months. The dog has probably benn well socialised and brought up, shown with a modicum of success, and has to be practically given away!

Hi the young dogs were Chihuahuas. I suppose because they are a little harder to come by than some breeds, their breeders are able to charge more?

Exactly the same here, I have just rehomed a 10month old who hasn't quite come up to standard for exactly half the price of a puppy.

Most important thing to me is to find a special home not the money.

A few weeks ago there was a Chihuahua bitch for sale, if I remember rightly, she was 3.5 years old and the people selling her were asking £350, it may have even been £450?
Poor thing was for sale in one of the free ad papers, so I doubt she was of good show quality?
Guess as long as people are willing to pay...

When I was looking for a dog last Summer I specifically tried to find a breeder that had held back a pup and then decided not to keep it. I expected to pay the same as I would for a puppy. In the end I went with a puppy because finding a teenager that would not quite cut it in the show ring was proving too difficult.

I plan on getting another dog, but not yet. Have not decided if it will be show or just for companionship. This time I am going to wait for the older pup, in either case.
