My girl is 4 weeks in pup and she is not eating could anyone tell me if this is normal She is on the BARF diet and she seems to want other food as i must admit i have given in and given her a tin of Pal and she did eat that I am worried that the pups will take all the goodness from her, and she will get run down, She has had a litter before but she didn't go of her food then.

I could probably put on one dinner plate how much my girl ate from week 4 to whelping, she went on to have a healthy 7 pups, my vet said she will eat when hungry and not to put any food down until evening, some days this worked others it didn't, I worried myself sick, but had a very good outcome, so when my second girl did exactly the same I didn't panic quite so much and she also went on to have 7 pups. Once they had both whelped they ate and ate, thats when they need the goodness during feeding!

Thanks for your reply, it has helped to ease my mind a bit but you can't help fretting over our babies! She normally eats her food so well!

Hi, if she were mine I would be tempted to offer her some tasty high quality complete food like Arden Grange to make sure she has a reasonable amount of nutrition, even my fussiest of puppies will eat it happily when nothing else is touched, especially if mixed with a little (tablespoon) tinned meat made into a gravy with a little warm water and mixed in. Arden Grange can be bought in small bags, to see if she likes it. Good luck.

Thank you for your advice Zena has eaten a full dinner tonight so I feel that maybe I was worring over her to much, she seems to be much more hungry than usual, So i'll have to put it down to her being in pup and remember for the future that this is something that happens if I ever decide to have any more pups.
