Moondog has recently clawed through the wall of my home to get outside, presumably to find me. He is fine when he is near humans but this is not always possible. Any ideas on how to calm him? I was told that if I crate him he may hurt himself.

My previous Staffy was petrified of thunder too and of fireworks :(
We had to turn the radio or TV up really loud whenever either was happening
