my bitch is now 54 days gone and today i noticed a clear runny sticky discharge from her vulva while cutting the hair around her teats in preparation for the whelping. surely it cannot be a sign of labour as she is still two days short of eight weeks! what does it mean? i thought it was a sign of labour but it seems a little early. gettin a tad worried so any help or advice greatly appreciated thanks!

Provide the discharge is clear and non-smelly I would not worry

Clear discharge is perfectly normal, infact it's a good sign that things are progressing normally, the discharge thickens and increases as delivery date draws closer, so try not to worry
As Christine said, so long as it remains clear and is not smelly shouldn't be anything to worry about.
My bitch who as you know is at about the same stage as yours, is due next Sunday, she has been showing a sticky clear discharge for about 2/3 days now. What can be confusing is that if they happen to sit down when the discharge is in evidence than because of its sticky nature it can pick up dirt and bits of grass etc. What I do to check everything is ok is to wipe them down with a damp cloth to clear the discharge away and keep watching for when it reappears, this will reassure you that it is still clear.
I have found that my bitches tend to have more discharge the more they are carrying from pressure on the cervix.

My girls 57 days and has had a clear discharge for acouple of weeks now.
Did worry yesterday when i thought it was stained, then realised it was soil stuck to it where she had been digging. Have a great cave in the rockery.

thanks everyone-little bit calmer now but have just been rubbing her stomach and found something thats worried me even more! just below one of her teets is a small piece of skin that looks like a minature teet. its not hard or infected in any way it just seems to be a lose small piece of skin. shes not bothered by it at all but i am! help! it doesn't look like a cyst or lump and it definately wasn't there before the pregnancy. its been covered up by her fur and as its so small i havn't seen it until today. what do you think it is- is it due to the pregnancy? i am at a complete loss :( so any help greatly appreciated!!!

I'm not sure how to call it - vestigial teat ? Anyway, that's what it looks like the way you describe it. Some women have some, under their armpits for instance. The hormones of pregnancy seem to have an effect on them too. I have 2 bitches who have one.

thanks i just worry as she is prone to cysts around her teats for some reason. iv never seen it before and it looks just like a small teat. so has it come up because of the pregnancy then and will it go back down after shes whelped? is it anything serious? thanks for your help

wonder if they were whelping at the same time then?-molly started at 2.30 in the afternoon and finished at 6/7pm. for the first three nights i never left the whelping bow but last nite i decided to sleep on the sofa and set an alarm to wake myself up every hour to make sure there ok and hopefull ill be able to hear them crying neway. its weird becasue i don't seem to mind leaving her on her own for about half an hour during the day while i watch telly or something but i hate leaving her at night. for some reason i think that the pups are safer during the day! mad i know :p but i suppose its becasue more people are in the house during the day where as at night its just me because everyone else just goes to sleep and leaves me- the ***** :p!
ill be glad when they are a bit older and have opened their eyes. still im amazed that already they wag their tails while they eat! they are so gorgeous!
