Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Time to worry?
- By Alexanders [gb] Date 15.06.03 11:03 UTC
My sister's bitch is on day 65 from her second mating (day 67 from first mating) and apart from several false alarms, still no puppies. Is it sensible to leave her longer before taking her to the vet or should she go immediately. I have read that up until day 68 is normal, but is that really so. I am a believer in no intervention unless necessary, but do not want to take any risks.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Fiona

Edit: this is her second litter and on the first she had the pups on day 62.

i know of one bitch who went to day 66 and when i was doing some research i think i remember reading that up until day 70 is normal but go straight to the vet after that. some bitches don't show any signs of early labour like panting, off food etc and just go straight into stage two very quickly so i wouldn't worry just yet. good luck and hope that helps :)

Thanks Liz for such a quick reply. I felt we were okay to wait but my sister is panicking a bit (don't blame her though)

i know- sometimes you don't know what to do for the best! every bitch is different though and i suppose the pups will come in their own time. better for the pups to be late than premature i suppose. sure they will come in the next few days though. if not i would take her to the vet just for a check up. :)
