hi everyone i need some advice about a friend of mine who thinks her mongrel may be in whelp..... heres what happened she noticed pretzel was in heat and kept her in etc until her bleeding stopped thinking once pretzel stopped bleeding season was finished....so obviously shes put the bitch outside at her most fertile at day 10/11!!
inevitable happens and gs gets in garden at pretzel, she says she thinks they tied but im inclined to think that they didnt(just because she sorta gave me a confused look when i asked and i dont think its something that she wouldnt notice) also she said when she saw what was going on she spent 10 mins chasing the gs round trying to get him out of the garden...so he obviously hadnt finished??
that was 3 days ago and pretzel has started bleeding again thats a good sign rite??
what are the odds of a pregnancy and is there some sort of after morning pill because she hates the idea of waiting till 4 weeks and then having to abort and i have to say i agree with her on that one, either way there is no way pretzel could go through a pregnancy and birth shes still a puppy only 9 months old herself, shes aware of how irresponsibe shes been and feels awful (she called me in tears) she said she hadnt thought about spaying until pretzel came into heat and made a mental note to get her done..... :( i really dont know what advice to give as my experiences have always been planned and monitered and i only ever had 1 litter anyway (hope to have another soon) anyway hping someone can offer advce thanx emma

If she was my bitch i would take her to the vet explain what has happened and ask the vet to spay her, she is far to young to have puppies as she is still a baby herself. The chances are she isn't in whelp but as the owner can't be 100% sure it is best to stop it now and at least once the bitch is done the owner won't have that worry again.

There doesn't have to be a tie for a successful mating. Many "slip" matings go on to produce lots of puppies. To be on the safe side - a trip to the vets and quickly is required to halt any potential pregnancy and then in two to three months she should be speyed. I would also recommend that your friend makes her garden more dog proof - as it's not just to stop her girl getting out but others getting in!!
I bet she is so upset - but hopefully she has learned valuable lesson.

I would not wait, and have her spayed right now - there's technically no problem in spaying a presumably pregnant bitch for the vet.

I thought that the injection that can be given was supposed to be adminstered within 24 hours?? of mating, this will then start the season all over again so the bitch would again be open to mating, not 100% certain but I'm sure somebody will be along soon to clarify.

my bitch had the jabs done after an unplaned mating i phoned my vet and was told to bring her down on day 3 and 5f or 2 lots of jabs and they only cost me 10 pounds for the tww of them
i did phone a diffrent vet (a closer one) and he told me to bring my bitch up at 3 5 7 day for 3 jabs and that would cost me 90 pounds 30 pounds each
but they do restart the season again
