i am thinking of going on this course to do microchiping dogs /cat,has any one elis on the broad been on this course,or do you do chiping,where do you get your thrid partly insurance from,can you under cut the vets fees.just need some more feed back before i book on the course.

I will be very interested in the reply, as I have been trying to find out where I can get some information, as we took Britney 8 month and Kujoe 9 weeks to both be done this week, our vet wanted £32 each for the microchipping, we went to Pets at home and they charged £9.99 each at there vet centre

thinking of charging £15 to £20,my vets is £24 plus vat and a consultaion fee abour £40 in total.

There is an advert in countrymans weekly each week offering the course...I believe you get 2 or 3 of your own dogs chipped on the course which practically pays for itself! friend of mine did it & will now do anyones dogs at a show for them...cheaper than the vet although i am not sure if chips are pet-log registered or not?

My daughter microchips.

She charges £12.50 per pup when doing a whole litter, and £15.00 per dog if they come here to be chipped. If she has to travel, she charges travelling costs dependent on how far she has to go, and how many dogs are to be chipped.

Her insurance is through Philip A Barnes and is with Norwich Union, but is included in her Grooming Insurance, so not sure if they do a separate one for chipping.

Hi I did a course 2 years ago, mainly to do my own, but I do a few and donate the profit to our Rescue. ( charge £12. My own Vet charges £15, and a couple of the big proactices round here charge £30plus. It was a quick course, and I had to chip a cat and dog - took 2 dogs as they wanted extra for demo dogs. Local kenels/grooming 'spa' is doing course in conjuction with the Animal Welfare College - they are advertising for dogs to attend and be chipped for free, so the students can use them as 'practice' dogs.

I had a lot of trouble finding anyone who would cover chipping for insurance. Even petplan dont include it with grooming/boardin policies. Managed to get it aded on to my policy via local broker, but in discussion on a grooming group have discovered there is only 1 company who offers this as a stand alone thing - cant remember the name but can dig it out if you like (I can only remember the company is owned by a lady called Sylvia, who has a stand at all the big frooming comps)

I live in Bristol and there is a chap that works for the cats protection league, he goes to cats and dog shows is fully qualified to do micro-chipping, he also does it from home, he only charges £8!! He said the chip itself only costs £5 so the other £3 goes to the cats home, which I think is a great idea! How do these vets get away with charging such an awfully high price??
