I have a 3 month cavalier king charles bitch i was woundering when her first season will be? will she have just 1 or more a year? and is there anything i can use to stop my 2 male cavaliers trying to mount her? thanks jill

Hi Jill
Most females have thier first season withing the first year of life (usually around 6 months old) . This is dependant on the breed, the smaller the breed the earlier the season the bigger the breed the longer it takes for the Bitch to reach adolesence. After the first season the cycle is usually every 6 months (give or take)
Once your bitch comes into season every dog in the neighbourhood will know so you'll have problems walking her and unfortunatly your 2 males will never leave her alone.
If your dogs aren't neutured I would def seek your Vets advice because the last thing u need is an underage dog having a litter of puppies which will not only cause untold grief finding new homes for these guys but also heath problems for the Bitch that isen't mature enough to have a litter.
Some people kennel thier Bitch while in season others just avoid public places and keep male dogs well away, but accidents can and do sometimes occour, after all you can't always watch them 24 hours a day.
