I read that the average litter size for weimaraners is 6-8 puppies. We are thinking of buying a puppy from a breeder who has just had a litter of only 4 pups. Are there any advantages/disadvantes/problems with having a litter this small. Or is it just chance and nothing to worry about? Thanks.
Litter sizes vary dramaticly! four is a nice sized litter there are litter mates for the pups to play with and gain the doggy social skills!
And because the litter is smaller they should be very big strong puppies having had plenty of milk in the early days.
Some say litter size is hereditary (im not sure of the excact science on that one) so it may make a difference if you had future breeding plans. :)

I breed Weimaraners and I have had 6's, 7's, 8's and 9's. My stud dog had several 10's.
If their are four pups that means the pups will be well fed puppies.
I would not worry about this. Do you want the Weimaraner for pet, show or working. As this is more important to worry about also the fact that Weimaraners should be hip scored. Check out what the parents scores are. The breed average for Weims is 13 but several come under this but again lots go over this. I would want to know that my dog came from parents with a score of under 13 rather than to wonder about litter size's. This is soooooo important. Also if you want a working dog or showing dog. Make sure the breeders can offer you all the advice you need.
