Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / HELP...She's wetting her bed.
- By xena [gb] Date 13.06.03 06:13 UTC
My seven month old bitch has never been clean on a night yet. We get the odd dry night but as a rule she still pees.

She used to sleep in a crate but still pee'd in the front of the crate where her bowl was.

I took her out of her crate approx 2 weeks ago. I do leave paper on the floor just in case, but she has started either peeing in her bed or the beds of my other two dogs.

I stand in the garden at night for ages ( 40 - 60 mins) trying to get her pee before she goes to bed, but she simply sits down and refuses to do anything.

I go to bed around 11pm and I am usually up between 6 - 6.30 am.

She still pees sometimes when left for very short periods of time also.

I really am lost here, I have two other dogs and have never come across this sort of behaviour.

Any suggestions please>??????

Hi
Dont know how much help this is, but I taught mine a word for peeing which is infact 'wee' so every time I think he should need to go I take him out side and say 'Wibble wee' and he does. I just started off by saying it when he started going and he caught on then what it meant.:) Sorry Icant be more of a help

Thanks, but I too have taught her a word to go pee...but for some reason she simply ignores it on a night time. Any other time she does it.

Please anybody any other thoughts???

Just a suggestion; but could it be a protest pee, because she's been left?

Is there an attention issue here? What is your reaction when you find that she has done this? Even if you think you're ignoring it, if she sees you cleaning it up, that could be perceived as some desired attention, especially if she is one of three and has to share you?

It could well be an attention thing, but how do i deal with ....

I'd check there are no medical reasons for this. A Dobermann at our training classes had a similar problem - it turned out to be related to a dietry problem - e-coli which was made worse by a vet over perscribing a dose of anti-biotics - it was only after a hospital visit that the matter was sorted. Do make sure you check the possibility of any medical problem.

We are lucky not to have experienced the problem with our Ridgeback - but we do take up his water at night 7pm and leave him just a few mouthfuls in a bowl for during the night.
