Please help-I'm in the process of completing my entry for Houndshow champ and it needs to be sent NOW!!!
Problem is I've promised my daughter she can do the Junior handling.Question is its a 'junior handling association' class-does she need to be a member?.She did jion the JHA about 18 months ago but have had no info apart from her badge sent through so if you need to pay yearly subs shes probably no longer a member.Don't want to disappoint(sp?) her!!!
PLEASE help,Archer
No problem Archer you do not need to be a member to enter a JHA class at any open or Champ Show. So she won't be disappointed!!!
Best of luck to her. :-)

Thanks so much for your quick reply!I'll send off my entry tonight.
I'm gonna be just so nervous -she does well at open level but champ shows are just a bit different!Didn't think she was ready till she showed my(or should I say her) boy at the local match night onand WOW!!! is all I can say .I had so many comments about how good they are together that I feel I've just got to let her try.
Thanks again,Archer
How old is she Archer?
I had the best fun when my daughter was handling through from 8 till she was 16 plus, it is one of the best hobbies out there in my opinion, teaches them respect for their dog, good competition and how to get on with and respect adults.
She'll be fine it'll you that'll be biting your fingernails whilst she is competing :-D
My Gemma went on to show in the breed, she has made up two champions for me, and she also judges both breed and handling classes. She still loves it as mucvh as ever and is a brilliant companion for me at shows, especially since she could drive. lol

Hi
Shes 9 and loves showing. She can't wait to take over the reins so to speak!!
She has a wonderful relationship with the dogs and they all adore her.My biggest worry is that she is hearing impaired and wears 2 hearing aids so I'm glad the judge is a female cos it means no beard and hence she can 'suppliment' her hearing by lip reading. She copes very well and most people don't realise she can't hear properly.
Do they ask anything more complicated in the younger classes than at Open level for example 'T's .She o.k with the usual triangles,up and down and reverse triangles but should I teach her anything else?
Thanks again for your help
Archer
no they shouldn't ask anymore than the basics in 6-11 at Champ Shows.
Tell your daughter than Alex Hurley was very badly hearing impaired and he did very very well in handling. If at any time she does not hear or understand a judges instruction then she is well within her right to politely ask her to repeat it.
Who is judging at the Hound Show?

Hi
the judge for Houndshow is Miss Marina White.Do you know anything about her?
I will explain to her that she needs to ask if she doesn't hear properly although its never caused her a problem yet.I'm sure she'll be fine-I'm very proud of her however it turns out!!She has done very well up to now but she has also learnt that you can't win all the time which I think is very important
Archer
I believe she is an ex-junior handler herself, so she will know the correct way to judge, pretty certain that she handled Beagles.

Hi archer
I have 3 junior handlers all who are pretty good. they enjoy it and have made lots of friends.
as far as tha JHA goes, if your daughter gets placed 1st to 3rd she would qualify for the Richmond semi finals and with her place card there is a diploma and membership form to complete. It is renewable yearly but Liz Cartledge sends reminders out when you get your application form for the semis and you just send off the £2.
There is a very successful handler called Emily who is also hearing impaired and wears an aid. It has not stopped her and the judges seem to consider her needs
Some judges do ask fot Ts and Ls or even reverses of those. It gets a bit silly sometimes. Marina White actually has written a book about handling which is pretty good.
My youngest daughter handles Beagles for friends and is in partnership with one so she might be at the Hound Show too.

Hi
she qualified for Richmond last year although we didn't go and she joined the JHA but assume membership must have lapsed.
I'll show her 'T's AND 'L's but hope at least this time she doesn't have to do them since its her first time in JH at a champ show.
Thanks Archer

The book on Junior Handling is by the Hurleys, and there are pictures of him handling, and diagrams of the excersise. Have you the book Archer??? If not I will bring it to Houndshow for you!!! :D
I think you do have to Join the JHA to enter the Semi's at Richmond, but I may be wrong, it may only be in order to get the free Lunch that they lay on for them.

Best of luck to your daughter Archer :-D

Hi Babara
no I don't have any books on JH for her so it would be wonderful if you could bring it to the Houndshow.
I think you're right-when she qualified for the semi's at Richmond last year she got her form for joining the JHA(which she did) with her certificate.
Look forward to seeing you,Nikki.
