My 18 month old labrador Dempsey has been diagonsed with OCD of the Elbow.

He is having an operation on 17 June - can someone pleasetell me whether this will work and he will be back to his normal happy (no limping self) and that he can still have an active life.

Hi Josie.
OCD often settles down as the puppy gets older but normally if that was going to happen it would have happened by now. As I expect you know, the trouble is caused by a flap of cartilage on the ball at the top of the humours. (The long bone leading to the elbow). The flap often breaks away and causes no more trouble.

In some cases (Such as yours) it does not break away and needs surgically removing. The operation is a long established op and should go off without any problems. Dempsey will need plenty of rest afterwards while it heals but once it's over he should be able to live a perfectly normal life.

My advice is "Go for it!" :)

Best wishes, John
