I've been looking after a long haired collie (14 years old) for 3 days and it has a bald patch near its tail, the owners weren't worried about it (i.e. they knew before they went and left a note). Some of the hair is growing back but some is still bald. What do you think about it? She is all right in herself-I know her quite well and she seems normal and I have been grooming her properly.Any ideas?

I am sure the dog is fine, from what you say, and wonder if the bald patch may be linked to the gland dogs have near their tail? I think this has been mentioned in some previous postings, I expect others can give more help.

Thanks! I didn't want to 'interfere' or 'neglect'- I've known this collie since she was 2 and I'm very fond of her although she's not actually mine.I feel happier with that- not long now till the owners come back anyway. Thanks again, Bess.
