Hello Everyone
I bought My 8 week old Puppy Beagle on the 31st January 2003, her name is Jessica, since the 2nd week she started biting, we put it down to teething, but now she is nearly 7 months and the biting is still there though not as bad, she is fine round my house though i cannot sit down, round my mums house she is even worse, she showed her teeth to my mum yesterday, i just dont know what to do, i have had dogs in the past and they have never bitten any one, is this common in a beagle, i dont spoil her. She even trys to bite when she is being stoked, she starts of fine and starts to turn her head to bite. Please help i love her to bits but my family are starting to turn against her with her biting, Help is much apprecaiated.
Regards,
Stephen

My beagle went through that stage. She used to play bite for attention. It got to the point where she thought hands were toys. However, to overcome the problem i started by ignoring her when she did it. If i stroked her and she nipped i would turn away and ignore her completely. I also got my friends and family to do the same so she was getting the same signals from everyone. But i was reinforcing any good behaviour with plenty of praise or a treat. I tried raising my voice with her but it seemed to make her worse as she was still getting the attention from me.
It worked anyway and she has never done it again and she is now 10 months old. I also had a couple of experiences when she curled her lips up at me to growl. This was when she had something that she shouldn't have and i was trying to take it off her. I don't think it was aggression at all i think she was more frightened than anything. Mind you she hasn't done that since she was little.
I hope my experience helps you. Good Luck.
